Lutein is a powerful antioxidant that is used heavily by your eyes to maintain healthy function. It's found in vegetables such a kale, squash, and chard, and also in egg yolks.

Lutein protects your eyes by filtering high-energy blue light which protects delicate cells underneath your macula. It also acts as an antioxidant that concentrates in your macula. This helps to ward off potentially damaging free-radical damage. There has been a lot of evidence in research lately suggesting that lutein helps protect against common age-related eye problems.

Another added benefit of lutein is that it is a cardio-protectant. One study showed that mice given high doses of lutein had much cleaner, stronger arteries than those with no lutein supplementation. Maintaining healthy arteries is a major part of overall cardiovascular health.

I myself have been taking our Vision Health Kit for many years, which contains lutein. I hadn't really had any troubles with my vision before that but was taking it as a protective measure. I recently stopped for a few weeks and noticed that my eyes felt more tired, sluggish, and more reluctant to focus. Upon starting up with the supplementation again, the problems immediately disappeared. I don't think I'll be likely to miss any more doses.
